Indianapolis – Emmis Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: EMMS) today announced ratings successes from coast to coast.
“Overall, this is one of our strongest ratings periods, with the best results in years in Chicago and Los Angeles,” Emmis Radio President Rick Cummings, said.
“While attention has been focused on New York, Emmis stations in New York and in other Emmis markets were busy generating some of their best ratings ever.”
According to the Arbitron Spring 2002 Radio Survey:
Los Angeles – (Nation’s #1 Market by Revenue) KPWR (Power 106) is on top in Los Angeles 12+, and #1 in its key demo, 18-34, while Big Boy places 3rd in the morning, 12+. This is Power’s best ratings book since 1995. Country station KZLA went from 1.9 to 2.5 in 25-54 from the winter to spring books.
New York – (#2) One down, two up substantially. The first Arbitron book since Hot 97 (Emmis’ WQHT) had a direct competitor (Clear Channel’s Power 105) finds Hot 97 hanging tough at #2 in listeners 12 and older, and #1 in 18-34. WQCD is the #2 at-work station in New York, soaring from 11th in the winter book to 6th 25-54 total week, and WRKS is tied for third in 25-54, ahead of its direct competitor, WBLS for the first time in two years. Since Fall, Kiss rebounded from 12th to 7th and now, the station is back in its familiar top 5 spot at #3.
Chicago – (#3) In the face of a new direct competitive attack, Q101 enjoys its best ratings in two years. WKQX is #2 in its key demo (M18-34) while Mancow in the Morning is #1 in 18-34 for the second straight book.
Phoenix – (#14) Emmis placed two stations in the Top 5 for both 12+ and 25-54. KTAR-AM was third and KKFR-FM fifth in 12+, and KKLT-FM was fourth and KTAR fifth in 25-54. This is by far the best overall showing since Emmis entered the Phoenix market.
St. Louis – (#18) KSHE moves up from 7.3 (winter) to 7.5 (spring) in 25-54 and is now in 3rd place. Howard Stern on KPNT (The Point) claimed a 24.1 share of M18-34 – 16.7 share points ahead of the 2nd place show – and placed #1 18-34. KSHE 95, America’s oldest rock station, was top 3 again in the important 25-54 demographic. And according to the latest Miller Kaplan Report, Emmis-St. Louis ranks #1 in its market in total revenue for the year to date – despite ranking #4 in total audience (12+).
Indianapolis – (#31) WNOU (Radio Now) experienced its best ratings book ever, moving up from 5.3 to 6.3 in 12+, and placing #3 overall in women 18+. WYXB is #6, but the #1 adult contemporary station in the city, handily beating a direct competitor.
